Grace’s Chronicles #16: They twinkle, smile, and are full of lights but the devil wears Prada

You see peoples' eyes, but you don't know what these eyes I've seen. Or how they see the world.

There's a saying that goes by ''The eyes are the window to the soul''. The soul gets tainted, fractured, fragile or the other way around by what they've caught sight of. Your eyes can bless your temple or put it on fire. The eyes record every single moment of your life. The good and the bad. Your eyes distort reality once in a while. It interprets and registers the world around you.

I would rather see the world through the eyes of a child. But children as grown-ups do, also navigate through their share of nightmares.

Sometimes you stumble on a pair of eyes. They twinkle, smile, and are full of lights but the devil wears Prada. It's a disguise. Behind these eyes, hides an ocean of wickedness, darkness and drought. Eyes, take time to narrate their stories. But, they eventually do.

They say eyes never lie. I say watch signals and clues that people give you.

Our eyes take photographs on a daily, but we would rather use our phones to catch what our eyes can see.

Our eyes imprint images to create the film of our life. Sometimes we sit back and binge-watch what is left of our memories. That's where the photos in our gallery can be useful. But, imagine being in your 80s and scrolling through iCloud. Print the photos that hold you by the hand.

Some memories are clear and intact others fade as the eyes get older. We look back in the rearview mirror and we watch these images disappear in the background.

“Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and (yet) have believed (Jn. 20:29).”

Beyond the eyes, there's faith. Believing before you've seen it. Believing that things will go better, that your projects will flourish, and that your future is gold. Believing that there is God. A higher power on which you can lean when your eyes can't discern the truth. When your eyes are a well through which sadness overflows.

Our eyes filter the world around us. Our heart grasp it all and our faith helps us discern.

Open your eyes, expand your heart and keep faith.

See you next Saturday for another Chronicle.
